Since 1993 Peter J. Hingley has been an administrator at the headquarters of the European Patent Office in Munich, Germany, where he works in the Controlling Office and is jointly responsible for methodology and formulation of patent filings forecasts as well as the preparation of statistics. Among other tasks he organises an external research programme in forecasting and participates in a trilateral statistical working group involving the patent offices of Europe, Japan and the United States of America.
Peter is a citizen of the United Kingdom. He has an MA in Biochemistry from Oxford, followed by a Diploma in Applied Statistics from Oxford and a Phd in the same subject from Reading University. After graduating in 1976, he was for a short spell an English teacher in Japan, then worked in England for the Wellcome Foundation Ltd., Kingston University and Tokyo Securities Co.,(Europe) Ltd.
