IP4Youth&Teachers Seminar Goes Virtual in 2020

WIPO, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) organized the first virtual edition of the annual IP4Youth&Teachers Seminar from December 7 to 11, 2020. The seminar was organized for the benefit of 30 school teachers and ministry of education curricula developers from 12 countries in different regions of the world. A focus was given to the role of educators in fostering innovative and entrepreneurial future generations through teaching the youth about intellectual property (IP) and creativity.
The seminar was held in English and is part of a blended learning program that consists of a distance learning phase, a virtual seminar and a final asessement comprising a lesson proposal on creativity and an area of IP. Upon the successful completion of the program, participants would be awarded a certification in IP teaching at the elementary and secondary school level.
What did the seminar cover?
The virtual seminar featured interactive lessons on a range of topics including:
- How to teach creativity and IP in schools?
- The theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ);
- Gamification techniques for teaching IP concepts in the classroom; and
- Practice sessions on developing lesson plans and learning outcomes for copyright, traditional knowledge, trademarks and patents.
