In an April 20 launch ceremony hosted by WIPO Director General Daren Tang and Maha Ali, Minister for Industry and Trade and Supply of Jordan, Jordan officially became the first country in the world to benefit from the new WIPO service.

Mr. Tang highlighted the role of Jordan's IP office in supporting the innovation ecosystem and in particular the need to focus energy on supporting the key emerging players in IP such as SMEs and youth.

Minister Ali recognized the close cooperation between WIPO and the government of Jordan on a wide range of IP issues.

WIPO’s long-standing program of technical assistance to IP offices provides a platform for IP administration to more than 90 offices worldwide, which are able to efficiently receive, examine, register and publish applications for IP rights from users around the world.

The new cloud-hosted WIPO IP Office Suite utilizes modern, online tools to deliver new benefits to participating IP offices, which will be able to improve their services to the local and international IP community.  Security and reliability of the services will be improved by deploying best-of-breed cloud technologies and the platform will provide efficiency gains that will enable WIPO and IP offices to devote more time and resources to improving IP service delivery, rather than dealing with IT infrastructure issues.

WIPO and the IP office of Jordan have worked closely together for the last six months to validate and prepare the new cloud-hosted platform for use.  The platform is linked to Jordan's locally developed online service that offers online IP filing to applicants and representatives. Mr. Tang recognized the close cooperation and significant efforts of Jordan to launch this new system which will benefit IP offices worldwide.
