Nine new WIPO Academy online courses build practical intellectual property skills for emerging technologies, innovation, entrepreneurship and the creative industries.
Registration is open from September 9 to October 18, with courses running from mid-October to late December. The offer is designed for professionals, entrepreneurs, creators, policymakers, educators, students, and current or aspiring IP specialists.
Several courses belong to a new IP for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) series, which connects legal and management principles with the practical realities of specific industries and sectors
A sector-focused approach to IP for SMEs
SMEs account for the large majority of businesses worldwide, yet many do not fully identify, protect or use the intangible assets on which their competitiveness depends. The IP for SMEs series responds by placing IP within sector-specific business models, value chains and market conditions. The courses cover sports entrepreneurship, the videogame business, occupational safety and health, IP audits, and IP roadmaps for entrepreneurs. Together, they offer practical strategies for entrepreneurs, managers and business advisers, while helping support institutions tailor their guidance to the enterprises they serve.
Responding to technological change
Beyond the SME series, the expanded portfolio addresses technological change that is creating new opportunities, business models and IP management challenges. Participants will explore how IP principles inform professional decisions in areas including patent analytics, software licensing and open-source models, and IP enforcement.

Delivered online in self-paced or structured formats, the courses allow learners in different locations to combine study with professional or academic responsibilities. Applied learning activities will help participants manage innovation, intangible assets, and related opportunities and risks in their own contexts.
The courses are launching in English, with additional UN-language editions planned in line with the WIPO Academy’s approach to expanding multilingual access. At launch, IP for Safer Workplaces (DL465F26S2) is also available in French, while IP Roadmap for Entrepreneurs (DL455S26S2) is available in Spanish.
