IP Training for Women Researchers in Egypt
The National IP Academy of Egypt and the WIPO Academy jointly offered training and mentoring for women researchers across the country from 2023 to 2024 with a focus on how to integrate an IP strategy into their research. Over 75 researchers benefitted and are now empowered to make more informed decisions, enabling them to thrive across industries. The joint cooperation was developed to forge an inclusive and gender diverse innovation ecosystem in Egypt.

Learn-as-you-develop Videogame Initiative for the Youth in El Salvador
The School of Intellectual Property of El Salvador and the WIPO Academy implemented the “Playing IP” initiative in 2023 for computer science and graphic design university students across the country to compete in the development of an entertaining videogame that teaches the youth about IP. In the process of developing prototypes of the videogames, the 29 students learned about core IP concepts videogame IP-based business models, gamification of IP education for kids and they received advice on careers in the industry as they are all aspiring videogame developers. The winning prototype of 17-year-old William Edmundo Montano Molina will be further developed to be used as an educational tool to teach children about IP.

Future-proof Careers and Skills for Ukrainian Women in the Visual Arts
In 2023, the IP Academy of Ukraine and the WIPO Academy jointly developed an IP knowledge and skills-building initiative for women in the visual arts. Fifty beneficiaries who are currently operating in the fast-growing visual arts industry of Ukraine were taught and equipped with customized resources on how to commercialize their IP, identify opportunities within the challenges to their industry posed by generative artificial intelligence, to boost their careers and businesses.

Helping businesses bounce back from COVID-19 in Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Peru
Entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises from key economic sectors of Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Peru embarked on an IP learning journey with their countries’ respective IPTIs, to build IP monetization skills. The 68 participants also learned about customer profiling, and ways to develop scalable and sustainable IP business strategies that are resilient in the face of unprecedented events, such as global pandemics. Soledad María Solano Falcón decided to register her trademark for her handicraft business, Baladona Store, in Peru after learning about the importance of protecting her IP assets through WIPO’s cooperation efforts with the National School for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property. Having IP protection will allow her to level-up in her business by mass-producing handicrafts, and shifting into a social enterprise that supports women who have been victims of domestic violence.
