Women Artisans in the Handicraft Sector in Tunisia

Women artisans are the heart of Tunisia’s rich handicraft history.

With over 300,000 artisans in the country, 85% are women.

In Jebeniana, in East Tunisia, 38 women artisans are turning traditional skill into thriving businesses.

WIPO provided training and mentorship to help them build real-world IP strategies.

Together, the artisans established a collective trademark to strengthen product recognition and protect authenticity. 

As a result, these artisanal businesses are increasing their craft’s value, expanding their income opportunities,  and preserving Tunisia’s heritage for generations.
