Brazil will host for the first time the annual meeting of the Global Network of Chief Economists of Intellectual Property of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), one of the main international bodies dedicated to the economic analysis of innovation and intangible assets. After a technical meeting, the International Conference on the Economics of Intellectual Property and Innovation will take place, promoted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil in partnership with WIPO, on November 10 and 11, in Rio de Janeiro. The conference will be broadcast on the Institute's YouTube channel.
One of the highlights of the conference will be the presentation of studies and indicators aimed at measuring innovation and its economic impacts. During the event, WIPO will present the results of the Global Innovation Index (GII) and INPI will launch the 2026 edition of the Brazil Innovation and Development Index (IBID), which evaluates the performance of innovation ecosystems in Brazilian states and provides evidence for the formulation of public policies.
The event will bring together representatives of intellectual property offices, international organizations, universities, governments and research centers from different countries. Among the participants will be WIPO's chief economist, Carsten Fink, Brazilian authorities and experts from different regions of the world, promoting an exchange of experiences on knowledge-based innovation and development policies.
On the agenda, artificial intelligence and the green economy
Throughout the two days of activities, participants will discuss topics such as artificial intelligence and intellectual property, financing innovation, intangible assets, green economy, use of data for public policies and the role of brands and other IP assets in generating economic value. The program will also include the launch and discussion of new research produced by INPI and international institutions.
Discussions will focus on the challenges faced by economies in transforming knowledge into sustainable growth, as well as the opportunities generated by the growing relevance of intangible assets. Invited experts will share experiences on how intellectual property can stimulate competitiveness, productivity and economic development.
