On November 19, 2025, Algeria marked a major milestone in its sustainability journey with the launch of the first thematic network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) dedicated to green technologies.
The landmark event at Annaba’s Centre de Recherche en Environnement (CRE) brought together over 100 participants, including research institutions, universities, government representatives and industry leaders. The initiative was jointly hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Institut National Algérien de la Propriété Industrielle (INAPI), Université Constantine 3, and CRE to accelerate the country’s transition toward a sustainable innovation ecosystem.
The event was enhanced by the presence of the Governor of Annaba, Mr. Abdelkrim Lamouri.
WIPO played a pivotal role in this initiative, reinforcing the importance of intellectual property in driving climate solutions. Through WIPO GREEN, WIPO offers a global platform that connects innovators with partners and investors, enabling the deployment of green technologies. “Algeria has the potential to innovate, and it will require strong collaboration with different economic partners to identify where the needs are”, emphasized CRE Director Pr. Bouslama Zihad.
“Algeria’s leadership in creating a thematic TISC network focused on green technologies is a first-of-its-kind model,” said Mohamed Saleck Ahmed Ethmane, Director of WIPO’s Algeria Office. “This initiative sets the stage for stronger collaboration between national stakeholders and international partners.”
Clarice Mporamazina Aboagye, Partner Engagement Specialist at WIPO, presented WIPO GREEN during the event, highlighting opportunities for Algerian innovators to showcase their solutions globally. “WIPO GREEN is more than a database, it’s a community committed to accelerating sustainable innovation,” she noted.
The launch event concluded with roundtable discussions where members of the newly formed network developed a workplan and a shared commitment to explore joint activities, including innovation challenges, events and capacity-building programs. Stakeholders also expressed interest in future collaboration through WIPO GREEN acceleration projects, signaling strong potential for impactful partnerships.
