From Ideas to Assets: Unlocking Viet Nam’s Innovation Economy

Hanoi, Viet Nam, March 17-18, 2026

As intangible assets reshape modern economies, the ability to value intellectual property (IP) and integrate it into financial transactions has become a cornerstone of global growth.

Recognizing this, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam (IP Viet Nam) and the Ministry of Finance of Viet Nam, delivered a high-impact hybrid National Training Seminar on IP Valuation in Hanoi. Supported by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Japan Funds-in-Trust (FIT/Japan), the event bridged the gap between technical IP expertise and practical financial application.

The seminar empowered nearly 370 professionals, with 30 on-site and over 340 joining online. The significant participation from financial institutions and valuation firms, alongside representatives from government and academia, reflects a powerful and growing momentum around IP valuation within the region.

The program’s impact was driven by a high-level exchange of expertise. Working alongside specialists from WIPO, IP Viet Nam, and the Ministry of Finance of Viet Nam, the team of experts included:

  • Mr. Nicolas Konialidis (IVSC), framing the international valuation landscape.
  • Mr. André Gorius (LESI), providing the technical foundation for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Mr. Phuong Nguyen (Grant Thornton Viet Nam), sharing practical insights.
  • Mr. Levente Pethő (Danubia Group), offering perspectives on professionalism and results presentation.

This collaboration delivered the technical clarity needed to transform Vietnamese innovation into a bankable economic force.

The Master Key to Tomorrow

IP valuation is increasingly becoming the “master key” for strategic licensing, M&A, and secure technology transfers. The WIPO-ASEAN IP Valuation Regional Project reveals this shift in action: while trademarks currently dominate the landscape in Viet Nam, patent valuations are rapidly gaining ground as the nation’s innovation ecosystem matures.

By strengthening technical expertise and aligning international standards with local practice, WIPO’s work contributes to the ongoing transformation of IP into bankable assets. This mission ensures that Viet Nam’s creative brilliance is not only protected but profoundly valued, supporting long-term investment and broader access to finance.
