WIPO celebrates intellectual property (IP) examiners around the world who have made a positive impact on the IP system through their hard work and initiatives.

Amy Hafez, Canada

Amy has been a patent examiner in organic chemistry at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) for over 15 years. She has helped transform how examiners learn, collaborate, and use complex search tools. With her ability to identify systemic gaps and build lasting, scalable solutions, she has led a national training cohort, designed and delivered impactful new trainings, and built a widely used knowledge platform that continues to empower examiners. As the Coordinator of the chemistry search team, she has introduced processes that have improved turnaround times, engagement, and efficiency. Driven to make information accessible, she has authored key updates to search manuals, developed intuitive tools, and played a central role in internal communications surrounding the release of CIPO’s Next Generation Patents system, ensuring clear, cross-departmental messaging and broad knowledge dissemination. Her contributions reflect a deep commitment to building infrastructure that supports innovation.
Antonio Carlos Souza de Abrantes

Antonio Carlos Souza de Abrantes, Brazil

Antonio joined the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) in 1998 as part of the first cohort of the patent examiner recruitment exam. A specialist in electronic engineering and utility models, he stands out for constantly updating himself in the face of technological advances, including the challenge of incorporating artificial intelligence into patent examination. Among his institutional contributions is the development of the SISCAP system, used to organize examiners’ technical opinions, and the Sinergias project, which collects essential statistical data for INPI’s appeals area. He also recalls examining technologies that later became significant products in the domestic market, such as the inductive card for payphones. Antonio works to incorporate artificial intelligence into analysis systems and to consolidate technical guidelines that strengthen the Institute’s legal certainty.
Badamsuren Orgilmaa

Badamsuren Orgilmaa, Mongolia

In addition to being an excellent patent examiner with over 35 years of experience, Badamsuren dedicates her time to mentoring and training new examiners. She also teaches intellectual property law, patent studies, patent information, and commercialization to university professors, researchers, and students across Mongolia, sharing her expertise to enhance their intellectual property (IP) knowledge. Moreover, she serves as an authorized representative and expert in patent disputes and court proceedings, offering professional advice and working to raise awareness of the value of IP.
Belinda Ilagosa

Belinda Ilagosa, Kenya

Belinda has been an IP examiner for 12 years and is currently the national coordinator of WIPO’s TISC project and advocates for access to IP information, embracing IP policies at an institutional level and promoting IP in order to protect creators and innovators. She is currently in charge of the Patents Division with noted improvements both in turnaround times for delivery of office actions and increased number of grants and registrations.
Brunilda Çuko

Brunilda Çuko, Albania

Brunilda is a dedicated and meticulous examiner who handles a high volume of patent and utility model applications, ensuring that decisions are legally sound and aligned with both national and international IP standards. She is collaborative and responsible in teamwork, especially in drafting the new law on patents, utility models, and supplementary protection certificates, as well as the guideline for supplementary protection certificates and the implementation of a new digital IP system. Brunilda actively supports and trains new examiners and contributes to the promotion and raising of awareness about the protection of inventions.
Carlos Guevara

Carlos Guevara, Colombia

Carlos has become a key reference in the examination of computer-implemented inventions in Colombia. His understanding of this field has contributed significantly to adapting patentability criteria to the specific challenges of emerging technologies.

Carlos Lozada, Peru

Carlos is a pharmacist and patent examiner with over seven years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and agrochemical fields. He has completed numerous training courses and participated in technical meetings with patent examiners from the EPO and INPI Brazil (2024-2025). He also collaborated in the preparation of the "Technological Electronic Report of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Patents Related to Coronavirus: Covid-19, SARS, and MERS" (April 2020). Aware of the challenges in his fields, he conducts objective patentability examinations, reviewing technical reports by other offices (Global Dossier) and following the Andean Patent Manual. Known for his positive attitude, Carlos supports his team and efficiently manages the patent applications.

Claude Plante, Canada

Claude is the advisor to the electrical director at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), and has been instrumental in advancing multiple initiatives. He has trained examiners in different technology fields in patent classification, provided statistical analysis to support workload management, and has served as rapporteur on IPC reviews for WIPO, offering valuable comments and translation support. Within CIPO, he ensures steady progress in classification work, delivers professional communication, and advises the Director on examination and classification issues. Known as one of CIPO’s classification gurus, Claude also examines applications and reliably takes on new projects and initiatives.
Consuelo Leguizamón Leguizamón

Consuelo Leguizamón Leguizamón, Colombia

With over 20 years of dedicated service as an examiner of patents and industrial designs, Consuelo has played a key role in the development of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, significantly contributing to the strengthening of team capacities. Her dual background as a pharmaceutical chemist and a lawyer has enabled her to provide a comprehensive and valuable perspective within the institution.

David MacKinnon, Canada

David is a senior patent examiner at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), and has trained individual examiners. In particular, he led the 3-month initial training for multiple new examiner cohorts. He is part of the quality working group (QWG) where in addition to it’s activities, he represented the quality working group in a meeting with external consultants. David has audited two internal processes, and contributes to the training working group which provides ongoing training to all CIPO examiners and maintains work manuals and examiner bulletins. David has acted as section head, is part of the social committee, and has received the Deputy Ministers’ 2021 Award of Merit in the “Leadership in Mental Health and Well Being” category for his work on the project: " Beyond Awareness 13 Psychosocial Risk Factors in the Workplace”. In 2024, he presented at the LATAM conference as a subject-matter expert on computer-implemented inventions and AI.
Dimitry (Dima) Litinetsky

Dimitry (Dima) Litinetsky, Israel

Dima, a senior examiner in the fields of quantum computing and medical devices. Dima plays a key role in the Examination Guidelines Team, significantly contributing to the drafting and training efforts required for aligning the guidelines with current practices. He is a leader in familiarizing examiners with emerging scientific fields, and demonstrates exceptional ability in examining complex applications in areas such as physics, electro-optics, and medical instrumentation. Dima serves as a go-to expert and source of consultation for examiners across the office working in these fields, and his deep knowledge and support are greatly valued.

Emmanuella Okafor, Nigeria

As a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Patents and Designs Registry in Nigeria, Ella has dedicated over a decade in professional service to strengthening the national IP system. Through rigorous patent examination, policy development, and enforcement of legal compliance and drafting, she has been part of the modernization of Nigeria’s IP operations. Her personal commitment has helped amplify collective strides towards a more effective, inclusive, and globally harmonized IP system in Nigeria.

Eno-obong Usen, Nigeria

Eno-obong is a Chief Assistant Registrar and a Senior Patent Examiner at the Patents Office of the Patents and Designs Registry of Nigeria. She has served for over 19 years as an examiner at the Trademarks, Patents and Designs Office of Nigeria at various times. She is innovative, resilient and committed to building an effective intellectual property system in Nigeria. She achieves this through effective examination of filed applications and feedback from the applicants. She has also been key to the implementation of several policies that have enhanced effective and efficient service delivery. She is an excellent leader and a good team player and mobilizes her staff to work towards a common goal.

Erika Castillo, Ecuador

Erika significantly contributes to fostering innovation in Ecuador. Through her technical expertise and her active involvement with the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs), she has strengthened the patent system by guiding inventors and researchers in the protection of their creations. Her work has had a direct impact on enhancing innovation capacities and promoting the use of intellectual property as a tool for technological and economic development.

Felix-Antoine Dandenault, Canada

Felix-Antoine is a patent examiner in the mechanical division of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). He has led the office in development and ongoing leadership of search recording and examination support tools. Under his vision, the tool became a wealth of resources and connections which enhance the examination process and help establish a consistent and thorough product for the office and its stakeholders. Currently he is developing new tools to support the policy team in calculating critical dates for patent files, while also looking into ways to enhance examination reports with more value-added data. Throughout his entire career, Felix-Antoine has brought significant and positive change and is an engaging and personable technical expert.
Iain Baxter

Iain Baxter, Canada

Iain is a senior patent examiner and has been with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office since 2012. Iain significantly contributed to transitioning the office to a pooled examination system. He developed a system which allowed work files to be grouped into areas of similar subject matter and then distributed among a team of examiners. This tool became an invaluable element in ensuring that work is properly allocated and distributed. Clients now experience greater certainty in turn around times and examiners work more collectively in shared pools, supporting one another during absences or periods of heavy demand. Iain continues to lead this work as the office’s IT modernization initiative continues to expand. He is also a leader in complex prosecution often being consulted in practice advisory groups and in stages of advance prosecution of patent files.
Ildikó Szepesné Sámson

Ildikó Szepesné Sámson, Hungary

Ildikó has served the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) for 36 years as a patent examiner, examining nearly 2400 patent, utility model and plant variety protection applications. She has prepared numerous IP scan reports, contributed to R+D evaluations, and is a member of the Body of Experts on Industrial Property, providing expertise in IP related court cases. She trains new patent examiners and shares her knowledge with clients and interested parties during IP scan interviews, consultations and at public events, such as festivals (e.g. the Valley of Arts Festival). Her expertise has made her one of the few examiners who participates regularly in the revision of the Hungarian patent and utility model examination guidelines. She has been actively involved with the Visegrad Patent Institute and HIPO’s patent search services. She has proceeded with the fastest patent granting process in the history of the HIPO (just one month from filing to decision).

João Marcelino

João Marcelino, Portugal

With over 30 years at Portugal’s National Institute for Industrial Property (INPI), João has made a lasting mark on the country’s patent system. He is a full-time patent examiner, an author of six books and practical guides, and is a frequent national and international representative for INPI. He combines technical expertise with the passion for innovation. He is a strong advocate for independent inventors and for fostering an IP culture within companies and entrepreneurs in Portugal. As a certified trainer and dynamic speaker, João is regularly invited to be mentor, judge competitions, and inspire audiences of all backgrounds among universities, business associations and tech hubs.

Juan Pablo Medina Sánchez, Peru

Juan Pablo, a patent examiner with over eight years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and industrial electronic invention. He specializes in assessing patentability and promoting IP awareness in Peru. In 2024, he lectured at the Universidad Nacional Intercultural de la Selva Central Juan Santos Atahualpa on “Searching for Technological Information in Research Projects,” where he trained professors in engineering, science, and technology on how to use free patent databases to support their research. He also spoke at the Universidad de Lima’s “Annual Patent Training Program”. He also served as a juror for the 2025 “Technological Innovation Project for the University Community” contest organized by the Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú, evaluating over 50 inventions.

Karin Herman, Israel

Kazım İlbay Oğuz

Kazım İlbay Oğuz, Türkiye

Kazim is one of the most experienced examiners at Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT), having started 25 years ago with a comprehensive background in technical fields. He has many enterprise applications in the field of patent and trademark search. He is also one of the founding members of the Turkish Patent Information Group (TURPIUG), which is a member of the Confederacy of European Patent Information User Groups (CEPIUG). Kazim is also a software developer and has been actively involved in the development and enhancement of TURKPATENT’s IT systems for patent processing and the management of other IP rights such as trademarks and industrial designs. He is now leading projects to facilitate and streamline the search and examination processes for patents using artificial intelligence, relying on his technical expertise to bridge the gap between operational needs and technological solutions to support efficiency and accuracy in IP administration.
Keren Bargig

Keren Bargig, Israel

Keren is one of the leading examiners in the integration of AI tools within the Israel Patent Office. She is a member of the team evaluating the implementation of AI in examination processes and has developed a bot for verifying compliance with examination guidelines. Her examinations are consistently of high quality and excellent efficiency. In addition to her examination work, Keren actively participates in IP training courses for new entrepreneurs, helping to make IP more accessible and relevant to innovators. She also led a research project focused on awareness of the services offered by the Patent Office to applicants from SMEs, demonstrating her commitment to improving outreach and service quality. Keren’s initiative, professionalism, and contributions make her a key figure in advancing innovation and excellence in the office.

Lily Yu, Canada

Lily, a senior patent examiner in the chemical division at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), and is recognized for her excellence in examination and leadership in examiner development. She mentors new examiners and regularly instructs in the CIPO’s training program. She has helped co-develop and deliver an innovative curriculum interweaving classification and examination. Active in the Quality Working Group, she contributes to enhancing the delivery of high-quality and timely IP services. Lily helped co-organize the Quality Summit, an event that brought together stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue on patent quality. She also played a pivotal role in the Examination Mapping Review Group, refining examination processes in preparation for the launch of the Next Generation Patents IT system.

Liubov Senchikhina, Russian Federation

After graduating from university with a degree in engineering physics, Liubov has been continuously working at the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS), a subordinate body of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent). For 19 years, she worked as an examiner, conducting substantive examinations of invention applications. For the past five years, she has been the Head of the International Patent Cooperation Division, which is responsible for international research and preliminary examination under the PCT. Her duties include distributing applications among examination teams, monitoring deadlines, and assessing the compliance of prepared reports with the PCT requirements. Liubov is currently preparing her dissertation in patent law and believes the key to success is commitment to continuously improving your professional skills.
Margarita Alonzo

Margarita Alonzo, Guatemala

Margarita is a patent examiner, biochemist and microbiologist who has demonstrated leadership in reducing the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM). With over 18 years of experience in IP, she has played a key role in IP and trade-related policies and legislation in Guatemala. She is a passionate advocate for women's leadership and empowerment across Guatemala and Central America, advancing the leadership of Guatemalan women in decision-making roles.

Marie-Claude Gagnon, Canada

Marie-Claude has been with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) since 2018 and occupies the role of senior patent examiner. Marie-Claude also brings a wealth of experience from her previous career as a patent agent. These two roles positioned her perfectly to take a key role in the development of CIPO’s modernized IT platform. She remains an instrumental leader and technical expert in all aspects of the system. Her guidance was critical in the development and release of CIPO’s NER system and later informed the development of the client portal. She led the integration of the client facing system and the office back end, and she works closely with all partners and stakeholders throughout the process. Her knowledge and passion for the project is a driving force in ensuring the new system meets the needs of clients and the Office.

Marleny Janet Cruz Gibert, Cuba

Marleny is a microbiologist with 25 years of experience working at the OCPI, where she has held various positions. For 12 years, she was a patent and plant variety examiner (2006-2018). Since then, she has been Head of the Patents Department, where she supervises the examination process for granting patents, industrial designs and utility models. She has extensive experience in patent research and examination in biotechnology, health, and agriculture, and has contributed to working groups developing IP policies and legal standards on patents, plant varieties, genetic resources, traditional knowledge, and industrial designs. She teaches postgraduate and master's courses in different areas of IP. She is the author of numerous publications, speaks at IP events at home and abroad, and represents the OCPI in expert groups and committees.

Marta Levi Langa, Mozambique

Marta has a master’s degree in IP and has been working in the Mozambican Industrial Property Institute as IP examiner for 19 years and is currently the Head of IP Examination Department. She assists innovators with drafting their patent application and accessing IP information and search where she has developed many improvements for the examination procedures from a digital perspective.

Mary Murphy, Canada

Mary has been a senior patent examiner at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) for over 18 years, producing work of excellent quality. She gives on-the-job training to numerous examiners, co-coordinates the onboarding and initial training of new examiners, and chairs the Examination Mapping Review group. Mary is also an internal and system auditor, acting as project coordinator within CIPO’s quality program, and is a member of the quality working group, acting as Section Head, and participating in the Vancouver Group search working group comparison of manuals. Mary is also an ad hoc member of the Patent Appeal Board. Mary’s excellent work in the biotechnological field supports Canadian innovators in ensuring they have high quality patents.

Milagros Takajara, Peru

Milagros is a pharmacist with a master's degree in intellectual property. She is a patent examiner of applications in the fields of pharmacy, biotechnology, and agrochemicals. She has over 10 years of experience, during which time she participated in numerous training programs. She has also participated in technical meetings with an examiner from INPI Brazil. Aware of the challenges posed by the technical fields of the patent applications Milagros evaluates and continually seeks to conduct an objective in-depth substantive examination, training and reviewing the work conducted by other patent offices (Global Dossier) and following the guidelines of the Andean Patent Manual, which is based on Peru’s legal standards. Furthermore, she always has a positive attitude when collaborating colleagues and is a good manager of the patent applications under her charge.

Nelson Cruz Tapia, Peru

Since joining the Directorate of Inventions and New Technologies of Indecopi, engineer Nelson has in his capacity as a patent examiner contributed to projects promoting the patent system, innovation, and Peruvian inventors. He helped prepare the COVID-19 technology bulletin, participated in authoring the Guide for Researchers in the Use of Patent Databases, and advised on the new edition of the Andean Manual for the Examination of Patents. Since 2019, he has taught patent specialization courses and contributed to three editions of the publication on stories of women inventors. Nelson is the focal point of the Latin American Acceleration Project led by WIPO GREEN, and he is responsible for the "Accelerated Program for Green Patents", which is aligned with his commitment to promoting green and sustainable technologies at the international level.

Onyekachi Eriobu-Aniede, Nigeria

Onyekachi is a committed IP professional with over a decade of service in the Commercial Law Department of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria. She currently serves as an IP policy developer and examiner under the Patents and Designs Registry. She plays a key role in improving the quality of patent and design examinations by guiding applicants’ attorneys toward stronger filings, reducing rejections, and promoting best practices in IP application drafting. Onyekachi strategically contributes to the development of the IP examination procedures and processes within the Nigerian IP system.

Rena Oulton, Canada

Rena has been a senior patent examiner at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) for over 20 years, consistently producing work of excellent quality. She trains numerous examiners, acts as Section Head for extended periods of time, participates in several projects, and acts as Lead on the Re-Issue Board. Rena also volunteers for the Patent Branch Bank of Speakers for the Business Services Branch, and has been a recipient of numerous CIPO and ISED awards. Rena’s excellent work in the biotechnological field supports Canadian innovators in ensuring they have high quality patents and supports the Canadian Intellectual Property Office’s ongoing commitment to excellence.

Saima Kanwal, Pakistan

Over her 19-year career, Saima has been instrumental in strengthening Pakistan’s IP and innovation ecosystem. Alongside substantive patent examination, she has driven multiple initiatives with lasting impacts in the research and innovation community. As the national coordinator of the Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) network, she has led the establishment of 48 centers across the country, expanding access to IP services for researchers, startups, and entrepreneurs. She has mentored women inventors through the IPO’s Women-Only Helpline, and led numerous awareness and training programs for universities, research institutes, business chambers, incubators, and grassroots innovators. She also contributed to national IP policy development, authoring the widely used publication “Strengthening IP & Commercialization Efforts of Higher Education Institutions in Pakistan: A Framework”, which guides institutions on shaping IP and commercialization strategies.
Sammy Lewa

Sammy Lewa, Kenya

Sammy is a senior patent examiner who has played a key role in mentoring new examiners and collaborating with senior colleagues to ensure that only high-quality pharmaceutical inventions are protected, thus safeguarding public interest and promoting access to affordable medicines. Beyond the office, he has actively trained universities, startups, and innovation hubs on how to protect their intellectual property, equipping them with the tools to build strong IP portfolios and gain competitive advantage in the market. His work has directly contributed to fostering a culture of innovation, integrity, and commercialization in Kenya’s IP landscape.

Tafseer Fatima, Pakistan

Tasfeer has made a lasting impact on Pakistan’s innovation landscape during her 19 years of service at the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan), advancing policies and initiatives that fostered a stronger innovation ecosystem. Beyond patent examination, she has spearheaded awareness campaigns, led 100+ training sessions/workshops, mentored researchers, and fostered collaborations between academia, industry, and startups to unlock the economic potential of intangible assets. Internationally, she has represented IPO-Pakistan at WIPO's Standing Committee on the Law of Patents. Her work shaped key reforms, including Pakistan’s accession to the PCT, the National IP strategy, patent agent examinations, and modernization of IPO processes. She continues to develop projects, support initiatives, and mentor women to build IP awareness, skills, and hands-on experience—strengthening their role in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Veronika Kleissl, Germany

Veronika is a group leader at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), specializing in medical technology. She started her career in neuroimaging, before transitioning into IP in 2012. She is known for her precise and efficient patent research, as well as a strong commitment to quality. Veronika has played an important role in mentoring new examiners and fostering collaborations with senior colleagues to uphold the DPMA’s high working standards. She has organized several workshops and events to optimize the exchange of ideas concerning patent and IP issues, demonstrating exceptional communication skills and promoting a culture of IP awareness. In addition to her work as an examiner, Veronika is active in public engagement. She regularly gives lectures highlighting the importance of IP. Furthermore, she promotes the role of IP examiners with published articles and podcasts.

Víctor Durand Guevara, Peru

Víctor conducts a thorough review of inventions in the field of biotechnology, not only to determine their patentability but also to detect right infringements, which has had a significant impact on the protection of these inventions in Peru.
Yasmin Amear Jilani

Yasmin Amear Jilani, Israel

Yasmin is a senior examiner in the field of mechanical engineering. She developed an educational platform in Arabic focused on IP and patents, aimed at supporting young Arabic-speaking entrepreneurs and increasing awareness and accessibility within underrepresented communities. She is an active member of the AI team at the Israel Patent Office and has developed a bot for assessing the relevance of citations to novelty and inventive step, enhancing decision-making processes. Yasmin is a versatile examiner with strong analytical skills and the ability to handle complex applications across a range of technologies. Her work exemplifies both professional excellence and a strong commitment to outreach and innovation.

Alejandro Uribe Vargas, Colombia

Over the course of his 11 years of experience at the Delegation for Industrial Property, Alejandro has supported opposition examiners in their professional growth, sharing both theoretical and practical knowledge to enhance the quality of decisions issued by the Direction of Distinctive Signs.

Allan Rogers, United Kingdom

Allan is an Examiner Technical Lead, providing advice, support and training to a team of international trademark examiners. He excels in his role and is highly valued by his team. Allan represents the UK IPO in a number of external forums. He supports the UK IPO’s relationship with a key stakeholder through his expert coordination of law and practice meetings. In these meetings, Allan brings his expert knowledge on complex international matters, providing support for senior colleagues and ensuring that the meetings are productive. Allan has attended the Madrid working group, delivering presentations on UK examination practice and tools, and he recently delivered an online presentation to university students in India. Allan is an innovator - when he sees something that can be improved, he takes ownership of analysing the problem, working on solutions, and presenting these in the relevant forums. His actions have led to improvement in systems, processes, data, training and customer tools, leading to efficiency gains, improved quality and better customer experience.
Anesha Otto

Anesha Otto, Antigua and Barbuda

Anesha is a trademark examiner who has shown consistent diligence in the area of trademark post-registration services by ensuring the accuracy and quality of important maintenance tasks such as renewals, change of address, and change of name. Her understanding of local trademark regulations, combined with a careful and detail-oriented approach, has supported the reliable protection of clients’ rights. Lyan Marsans Castellanos, Cuba

Lyan is a lawyer with 24 years of experience in IP, mostly as a trademarks and geographical indications examiner. She has taught and lectured at national and international events. She has helped to draft legal regulations and researched and published articles on topics relating to trademarks and other distinctive signs, geographical indications and nation branding. Since March 2024, she has been the head of the Legal Advisory and International Relations Department, where her duties include approving the examination of appeals, the conduct of invalidation proceedings and the restoration of trademark, geographical indication and patent rights. With over 30 years of experience at Portugal’s National Institute for Industrial Property (INPI), Paula has an extensive experience as a trademark examiner and plays an important role in protecting industrial property rights as Legal Affairs Officer. In addition to her long career as an IP examiner, Paula is also recognised for her regular cooperation with the Portuguese authorities in the enforcement of IP rights, with a strong technical contribution to the analysis of trademark and design infringements.
As certified trainer, she is regularly invited to share her knowledge on trademark and design protection at universities, schools, public services, as well as with other examiners.
Radja Fátima Olivieri Fajardo

Radja Fátima Olivieri Fajardo, Brazil

Radja joined the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) Brazil in 1998 and was part of the first group of certification trademark examiners and served as deputy head of the Trademarks Division and of Trademarks General Coordination II. Since 2006, she has led technical trademark examination teams. She participated in the Commission that implemented the International Classification of Goods and Services at INPI, a milestone that replaced the former national classification in 2000, in addition to having served on procurement and planning committees at the Institute. In 2025, Radja is heavily involved in the Pilot Project for Trademark Fast-Track Examination, which, starting in August, made available a service to prioritize trademark examination with strategic and public policy objectives.

Over the five years since Raïssa began working in the field of industrial property, she has built up solid skills to become experienced in managing, processing and examining trademarks. As a quality manager, she ensures the reliability and efficiency of the system for processing trademarks, taking into account the expectations of the system’s users. She is, moreover, diligent in her approach to examining trademark applications.

Seint Thanda Tun, Myanmar

Seint Thanda has over 10 years of experience in the implementation of IP in Myanmar. She is the Director of the Trademark Division under Myanmar’s IP Department as well as a trademark examiner. Seint Thanda was the driving force behind changing the first to use system to the first to file system in trademark rights in Myanmar. Although her educational background is in mechanical engineering, she has learned a lot about trademark law. Seint Thanda is also the group leader of trademark examinations. She has a good point of view on substantive trademark examinations and has granted 10,000 registrations to date.

Setra Kevin Rakotonindrina, Madagascar

Kevin has only been working in industrial property for the past three years but given his outstanding efforts, his youth is a source of inspiration for colleagues. With a solid legal foundation, great determination and his love for the profession, he is helping the Malagasy Industrial Property Office (OMAPI) to better grasp and implement the constant legal changes in the Madrid System for the benefit of international trademark owners. Being able to keep up with major players is a real challenge and source of pride for such a small office and helps to reassure users of the international system involving Madagascar. Kevin is also a meticulous examiner and excels at processing large volumes of data on international trademarks. His trademark prior art searches, using the available tools and without resorting to artificial intelligence, are highly accurate.

Khin Sandar has over 20 years of experience in the intellectual property field and is currently serving as the Head and senior examiner of the Industrial Design Division at the Myanmar IP Office. She has played a key role in developing the legal framework for industrial design. She was a group leader in the design law drafting group and was actively involved in setting up the Industrial Design Registration System of the country. The industrial design examination process has been significantly advanced due to her ongoing efforts to improve procedures, implement practical solutions, and strengthen examination practices.
