WIPO Director General Daren Tang visited Estonia from October 8-10, 2025, where he spoke at the Tallinn Digital Summit on the opportunities and challenges of AI for innovation and intellectual property (IP) and met with government officials.
Tallinn engagements
- Met with Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Liisa-Ly Pakosta to discuss embedding IP literacy into AI Leap 2025, Estonia’s national initiative to integrate AI into the education system, and how to further develop practical IP skills with support from the WIPO Academy.
- Met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna and discussed continued collaboration in shaping global IP conversations.
- Met with Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications Ahti Kuningas to discuss IP as a financial asset and IP commercialization for startups and deep tech.
- Met with Director General of the Estonian Patent Office Janne Andresoo to deepen institutional collaboration and signed a memorandum of understanding on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in the area of IP to promote efficient, business-friendly options for resolving IP disputes.
- Delivered a keynote address at the Tallinn Digital Summit on the opportunities and challenges of AI from WIPO’s perspective, underlining the role of IP in enabling the safe and effective adoption of AI across economies while keeping human inventiveness at the center of the IP system.
- Visited Wise, Estonia’s most valued unicorn, and discussed the company’s innovation journey and IP strategy, including the importance of a robust portfolio to support global scaling.
