The language of the administrative proceeding shall be the language of the Registration Agreement, i.e., Persian or English. Currently the WIPO Center only administers cases filed in English

Eligibility Criteria

Registration of .IR domain names is restricted. To register a .IR domain name, domain holders must be:

- organizations legally represented in the Islamic Republic of Iran;

- individuals residing officially in the Islamic Republic of Iran;

- organizations connected with the official representations of the Islamic Republic of Iran abroad;  or

- other individuals or organizations whose activity and the use of the domain name are not in conflict with the laws, practices and interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Supported characters

.IR domain names support ASCII characters

  • - may have from 3 to up to 63 characters;
  • - may include letters, numbers and dashes;
  • - may not use dashes in the first or last positions, or simultaneously as the third and the fourth character;
  • - may not use spaces
  • Domain names under dot-iran (.ایران) allow IDNs
