Year of Version 2003 Dates Adopted: June 11, 2003 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights) Notes The Law of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on the Protection of Computer Software is divided into 5 chapters: Chapter 1 on Fundamental Principles, Chapter 2 on Registration of Computer Software, Chapter 3 on Copyright of Computer Software, Chapter 4 on Protection of Computer Software, and Chapter 5 on Guidance and Control of Computer Software Protection.

The Law aims to protect software copyright, promote adherence to copyright provisions of international treaties and promote international cooperation.
Article 4 states that the copyright of software which are developed by a foreign legal person or an individual and registered for the first time in the State shall be protected by this Law.
Article 6 states that the treaties concluded by the State for software protection shall have the same effect as this Law.
Article 7 states that the State shall develop exchange and cooperation with international organizations and foreign countries in the field of software protection.
