Notes
This Act makes better provision relating to the institutions, customs and usages of the Nauruans and to adopted laws.
The Copyright Law of England applies in Nauru because, according to the Custom and Adopted Laws Act 1971 of Nauru, the common law and statutes of general application, which were in force in England on January 31, 1968, are adopted as laws of Nauru. (See Section 4 'English Laws Adopted' of the Act, page 3).
The Copyright Acts 1922-1933 of Australia was specifically repealed. (See the Second Schedule of the Act, page 10).
Notwithstanding the provisions of section 4 of the Custom and Adopted Laws Act 1971, the English laws of trademarks, tradenames, patents and designs are not applicable to Nauru. (See the First Schedule of the Act, pages 8 & 10).
