Year of Version 2003 Dates Entry into force: April 1, 2003 Issued: March 6, 2003 Type of Text Implementing Rules/Regulations Subject Matter Industrial Designs Notes These Regulations, issued pursuant to section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, make amendments to the Registered Designs Act 1949 in order to give effect to Article 11 of the Directive 98/71/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 October 1998 on the legal protection of designs.
In particular, regulation 2 provides for the amendments of sections 1A(2)(b), 11ZB(4), 20(1B) and 44(1) of the Registered Designs Act 1949 by including further grounds upon which the registrar of designs may refuse an application or a third party may request a declaration of invalidity.
