Topic: Designing a dispute resolution procedure for IP disputes in AI model training
Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to revolutionize the way we create, innovate, and interact with the world around us. As AI models are increasingly trained on vast amounts of data, including potentially copyright-protected content, the question of how to resolve intellectual property (IP) disputes in this fast-evolving space has become both urgent and complex.
The World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO AMC) invites members of WIPO ADR Young to participate in the 2025 WIPO ADR Young Article Competition. This year’s theme is “Designing a Dispute Resolution Procedure for IP Disputes in AI Model Training”.
Participants are encouraged to explore how alternative dispute resolution (ADR) frameworks can respond to the special needs of the AI and IP ecosystem.

Designing a dispute resolution procedure for IP disputes in AI model training
Submission requirements
- Maximum word count: 1,500 words (bibliography and references are excluded from the word count).
- Articles must be written in English.
- Entries should be prepared in Arial (Black) font size 10, with double line spacing, and pages numbered.
- Entries should be submitted in Word format.
- Submissions may include diagrams, charts, or other illustrations to support the argument.
- Deadline: July 31, 2025, at 23:59 CEST (Geneva time). Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered.
- All submissions must be original, unpublished, and the author’s own work.
- Plagiarism of any sort will result in disqualification.
- AI-generated content must be acknowledged and used responsibly. Participants may use AI tools to support research or enhance formatting and language. However, all core ideas and arguments must be the author’s own, and any AI assistance must be clearly disclosed in a footnote or endnote. Submissions that rely primarily on AI-generated content or fail to provide proper disclosure may be disqualified.

Prizes to be won
- Authors of the top 3 essays will be presented Certificates of Achievement by the WIPO AMC in an online ceremony.
- Authors of the top 5 essays will receive scholarships to undertake WIPO Academy Distance Learning courses.
- Authors of the top 10 essays will receive Certificates of Achievement.
What will the Judges look for?
A distinguished panel of experts in IP, technology, and ADR will assess submissions based on the following criteria:
- Innovation and originality of the dispute resolution procedure.
- Practicality and feasibility of the proposed solution.
- Clear, well-structured, and engaging writing.
- Effective use of diagrams and visual aids to enhance the proposal.
- Depth of legal and technical understanding of both IP and AI.
