Recognizing the broad impact of AI across the IP system, WIPO is advancing a range of complementary workstreams on AI and IP, spanning policy discussions, operational level discussions, the work of the standing committees and the development of AI tools.

A dedicated, two-day event for Member States to advance the global dialogue on legal and policy issues arising from the intersection of AI and IP.

AI Infrastructure Interchange

An initiative that facilitates global dialogue among experts on the technical and operational aspects of the intellectual property system in the context of artificial intelligence.

AI Tools and Applications at WIPO

Development and deployment of AI tools for improving the administration of the global IP system, through projects like the WIPO ICT Leadership Dialogue.

Standing Committees

Discussions and information sharing on focused areas of IP law and policy taking place at WIPO’s Standing Committee.

Global Forum on IP and AI

The Global Forum on IP and AI brings together Member States, thought leaders, professionals, academics and civil society to engage substantively with the legal and policy issues raised by AI across the full spectrum of the IP system and their broader implications for innovation, creativity and the global economy.
Held each year, the Global Forum provides a dedicated, sustained space for stakeholders to build a shared understanding and shape where this fast-moving debate will lead.

The Global Forum on IP and AI represents an evolution in WIPO’s work on frontier technologies. Shifting from the broader, exploratory nature of the WIPO Conversations to a dedicated annual event will enable Member States and stakeholders to engage in more in-depth, targeted and forward-looking dialogue solely on AI and IP.

Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII)

Launched on March 17, 2026, the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII, pronounced “A-triple-I”) is a WIPO forum that facilitates global expert dialogue on the technical and operational aspects of the intellectual property system in the context of artificial intelligence.
It focuses on how technical systems and tools can effectively support creators, copyright owners, and innovators while also promoting the development of AI technology in a rapidly evolving environment.

Given the broad impact of AI across the IP system, WIPO is applying a holistic approach across a range of complementary workstreams: including the Global Forum on IP and AI, the AI Infrastructure Interchange, the development of AI tools, and the work of the standing committees. WIPO also supports innovators and Member States through capacity-building projects and by providing a range of IP and AI-related resources.

Standing Committees

At the policy level, Member States are leading focused discussions within WIPO’s Standing Committees. In the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR), this includes dedicated information sessions on AI and copyright. In the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents (SCP), AI-related questions have been considered including patentability, inventorship and the use of AI in the inventive process.

WIPO also delivers capacity-building initiatives, including IP management clinics and regional training programs, supporting startups, researchers and public officials in leveraging IP for AI-driven innovation.
