WIPO has launched the Japanese version of the PCT Applicant’s Guide in “eGuide” format, giving Japanese-speaking PCT users faster, easier access to regularly updated information on the international patent filing system.
The addition of Japanese marks an important step in making the PCT’s top informational resource more accessible to one of the world’s largest PCT user communities.
From annual PDFs to regular digital updates
The PCT Applicant’s Guide (also known as “the Guide”) provides practical information on the PCT procedure, including the international and national phases of WIPO’s international patent filing system. Its detailed Annexes present essential details about the fees, procedures, and requirements applicable in all 160 PCT Offices.
The “eGuide” version of the PCT Applicant’s Guide was first introduced in 2022 as a fully electronic version of the traditional Guide, designed to offer users a better navigation experience, improved searchability, and easier access to essential information related to filing and managing an international application under PCT System.
Until now, however, the Japanese Annexes of the PCT Applicant’s Guide have been available only in PDF format, with updates published once a year.
What’s new?
The new Japanese eGuide brings essential information together in a digital and dynamic format. In addition to the two introductory documents of the Guide that explain the international and national phases, the Annexes for all PCT Offices are now also available in Japanese in the eGuide and will be updated regularly.
