An AI assistant is now available to help users build effective PATENTSCOPE search queries. This new tool makes patent searching more accessible by translating natural language instructions into structured search queries.
How the AI Assistant Works
The assistant builds PATENTSCOPE search queries based on instructions you submit in your language. The process is iterative: you can refine your query by entering further instructions. Queries are generated leveraging search keywords, publication dates, and country codes.
Simply describe what you're looking for, and the assistant will generate a query ready to execute. You can then refine the query by providing additional instructions.
Example queries:
- "Solar panels with efficiency improvements from 2022"
- "Patents from China about electric cars with IPC codes"
- "Bicycle innovations with electric batteries in German or Japanese"
Security and confidentiality
The language model is hosted on WIPO premises. Your search queries are kept confidential and executed only on WIPO servers.
Current Capabilities and Roadmap
Version 1.0 focuses on keyword-based searches with date ranges and country codes. Planned enhancements include:
- Applicant and assignee name searches
- Standard Essential Patent (SEP) queries
- Patent number searches
Provide Feedback
We're expanding the assistant's capabilities based on user input. To protect the confidentiality of your search activities, we do not analyze user logs. This is why your direct feedback is essential to improving the tool.

We understand users may prefer not to share actual search queries. Generic query patterns are equally helpful for development purposes.

The AI assistant requires a WIPO account.
If you already have an account, log in to PATENTSCOPE and access AI Assisted Search through:
- The Simple search interface, or
- The Search menu
