In 2025, WIPO further expanded its efforts to build capacity in IP analytics through training and knowledge-sharing activities delivered across regions and formats. These initiatives continued to support IP offices, policymakers, researchers and businesses in developing the analytical skills required to extract strategic value from patent information.
Patent analytics remains a critical tool for understanding technological evolution, guiding research and development (R&D), and underpinning evidence-based innovation and policy decisions. By offering targeted and practice-oriented training, WIPO supports stakeholders worldwide in strengthening their ability to analyze patent data and translate insights into informed innovation strategies and effective IP management.
Throughout 2025, WIPO delivered a number of key patent analytics training and outreach activities, including:
- January 2025 – Santiago, Chile: WIPO organized a National Seminar on Patent Technology Information and Patent Analysis for Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs). The seminar focused on the practical use of patent analytics to support technology transfer, research, and innovation services. The event also marked the launch of the Spanish version of WIPO’s game-based learning tool for patent analytics, Patent Quest: Navigating Innovation Horizons, expanding access to interactive learning resources for Spanish-speaking audiences.
- March 2025 – Online: An introductory patent analytics training was delivered for the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI). The online sessions introduced core patent analytics concepts and demonstrated how patent data can be used to support institutional decision-making and innovation policy across OAPI member states.
- March–May 2025 – Türkiye: WIPO conducted a series of patent analytics activities with TÜRKPATENT, beginning with an online training session in March, followed by in-person follow-up sessions in April and May. These engagements combined foundational analytics concepts with applied exercises tailored to national needs and institutional use cases.
- May 2025 – Hyderabad, India: Patent analytics modules were once again integrated into the WIPO-RGNIIPM Advanced Certificate Training Program for Patent Examiners. This session emphasized how analytics can complement patent search and examination work and support broader institutional analysis.
- September 2025 – Istanbul, Türkiye: As part of the CEPIUG 17th Anniversary Conference, delegates engaged with WIPO’s Patent Quest: Navigating Innovation Horizons serious game. The session showcased the use of gamification as a pedagogical approach for introducing patent analytics concepts and fostering discussion around innovation dynamics.
- September 2025 – Online: WIPO delivered an introductory webinar on the Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) Program and patent analytics for Caucasian, Central Asian and Eastern European Countries (CACEEC) member states. The webinar highlighted how patent analytics can also be integrated into TISC services to better support innovators and researchers.
- September 2025 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: A new advanced version of WIPO’s patent analytics board game, Patent Quest: Beyond the Innovation Horizon, was officially launched during the 2nd IP Analytics Community of Practice Annual Symposium. The new, advanced edition builds on the earlier, beginner version by introducing more complex analytics concepts and strategic decision-making scenarios.
- December 2025 – Online: An introductory patent analytics training was delivered for the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (IPTO/MISE), focusing on foundational analytics methods and practical applications relevant to national IP administration and policy support.
Through these activities, WIPO continued to strengthen global capabilities in patent analytics, equipping stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem with practical tools and methodologies to support IP data-driven decision-making worldwide.
