WIPO China: IP Drives Manufacturing and Regional Innovation

September 21, 26 - The 2023 World Manufacturing Convention and the 2023 Seminar on Intellectual Property (IP) for Belt and Road Innovation in Hefei and Chengdu emphasized the critical role of IP in fostering high-quality manufacturing and regional innovation. Mr. Bai Guangqing, Representative from the WIPO Office in China, attended both events.

In 2022, China achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 70,000 PCT patent applications, contributing to 25% of global submissions. Notably, 11 prominent Chinese manufacturing firms ranked among the top 50 global PCT filers, highlighting the importance of manufacturing in China's growth and global competitiveness. Mr. Bai Guangqing emphasized WIPO's commitment to an inclusive IP ecosystem, which includes initiatives aimed at enhancing IP protection awareness, capacity building, and geographical indication product development in developing countries. He also underscored China's role as a global model for innovation-driven development, offering valuable insights to other developing nations.

The two events collectively underscore the pivotal role of intellectual property in propelling high-quality manufacturing and regional innovation in China and along the Belt and Road.
