El Salvador joins the Hague System

El Salvador has joined the Hague System, expanding the geographical scope of WIPO’s international design system to 100 countries. El Salvador's accession marks the milestone of 100 countries covered by the Hague System and underscores the System’s growing global appeal as an efficient solution for securing international design protection.

The Government of El Salvador deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement on July 7, 2026. El Salvador is the 77th Contracting Party to the Geneva Act and the 83rd member of the Hague Union.

The Geneva Act will enter into force in El Salvador on October 7, 2026.

What does this mean for you?

Starting October 7, 2026…

  • If you are a designer or business owner in El Salvador, you will be able to seek protection of your designs in the 100 countries of the Hague System, by filing just one international application.
  • If you are a non-resident, you will be able to secure international design protection in El Salvador through WIPO’s Hague System, facilitating expansion of your business into Central America.
