AI-Powered Advanced Search Arrives in the International Designs Bulletin

Search the International Designs Bulletin in your own words

We've just made the advanced search of the International Designs Bulletin easier than ever. Thanks to a new feature powered by AI, you can now simply describe what you’re looking for in natural language and the search query will be built for you.

What's new?

Until now, running an advanced search meant building a query with field codes and operators, such as RLT=DEN AND PY>=2023 (to find registrations published in 2023 onwards). While extremely powerful, it’s not always intuitive and can get complex, especially when building large queries.

Now you can simply type your prompt and let AI do the rest. Your request is translated into a query and the search runs automatically without the need to look up field codes or operators.

Just type your prompt and AI does the rest.

This puts even complex searches such as combining designated Contracting Parties, entitlement, publication dates and transaction types within easy reach of everyone. The system lets you review the results of the prompt for accuracy so you can further refine it and you can write your prompt in all official languages of the Hague System (English, French, or Spanish).

See exactly how your request was understood

Every AI-assisted search comes with a clear explanation, so you always know what you are getting. For example, if you type:

Show me registrations designating China from the US published in 2022 that were not refused

the Bulletin shows you:

  • Your query translated for human readability: Registrations designating China with US entitlement published in 2022 that have no refusals
  • Query: DCP=CN AND ET=US AND PY=2022 AND NOT IRN IN (RLT=RGP)

This lets you quickly check the generated query to be sure it matches what you had in mind, and you can edit it manually or switch back to the classic field/code-based search at any time.

Remember! As with any AI-generated output, review the interpretation of your prompt and the resulting query before relying on the results. The more specific your prompt the more precise your results will be.

How does it work?

  1. Go to the International Designs Bulletin and open the advanced search.
  2. Type your request in plain language in the search box.
  3. Click the search icon.
  4. Review how your request was interpreted, along with the query that was generated.
  5. Browse the results, choose which columns to display, or export them to Excel.

Prefer building your own queries? You can still type them directly, just as before.
