Strengthening knowledge and technology transfer capacity across South Asia through professional development and experiential learning
Are you a knowledge and technology transfer practitioner working in a university, public research institution, or an intellectual property service provider in South Asia?
With this program you will strengthen your professional skills in technology transfer, IP management, licensing, and innovation management while earning an internationally recognized professional credential.
WIPO, in partnership with the Society for Technology Management (STEM), is launching this initiative to strengthen technology transfer capacity across South Asia.
Program components
The course, which is delivered by STEM, starts in November 2026 and consists of several components open to selected participants.
Phase 1: Online learning
November 2026 – January 2027 | Online
Up to 40 participants will complete a series of three online courses aligned with the Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) standards, covering core technology transfer competencies, including technology commercialization, licensing, IP portfolio management, and innovation management.
Phase 2: In-person training: pre-Summit workshop & STEM Annual Summit, Goa
February 8–11, 2027 | Goa, India
From those attending the online courses, 12 will be selected to attend the two-day Technology Valuation – Methods and Techniques pre-summit workshop and the subsequent two-day STEM Annual Summit 2027 in Goa, India.
These provide advanced training in technology valuation and networking opportunities with technology transfer professionals from India and the wider region.
Phase 3: On-the-Job Training at Indian Technology Transfer Offices
January – March 2027 | India (in-person placements) + virtual follow-up
The selected participants will undertake intensive five-week placements at experienced Indian Technology Transfer Offices. The placements ensure participants combine practical assignments, individualized mentoring, and day-to-day exposure to technology transfer operations, followed by three weeks of virtual mentoring to support participants in applying their learning at home institutions.
WIPO will cover travel and accommodation costs for selected participants.
Program objectives
The program aims to:
- Contribute to the professionalization of technology transfer practice by aligning learning activities with the internationally recognized Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) competency standards.
- Strengthen the capabilities of technology transfer professionals through a comprehensive professional development pathway;
- Equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in technology transfer and commercialization, IP management, licensing, IP valuation, and innovation management; and
- Foster regional collaboration, peer learning, and professional networks across South Asia.
Who can apply?
The online training program is open to knowledge and technology transfer practitioners from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, including representatives of IP service providers and technology transfer offices at universities and public research institutions. There are no minimum experience requirements to apply for the online training phase.
To be eligible for the on-the-job training placement phase, participants must successfully complete the online training component, demonstrate commitment and potential to apply acquired knowledge within their respective institutions, and obtain approval from their employer or institution prior to applying.

- A statement of purpose and motivation (maximum 500 words); and
- Confirmation of institutional support from your employer or supervisor.
What happens next?
Successful applicants will be notified by email and provided with onboarding instructions for the online training platform.
Participants selected for the on-the-job component may be invited for a brief diagnostic interview to support the mentor-participant matching process.

About the Society for Technology Management (STEM)
The Society for Technology Management (STEM) is a non-profit professional body established in 2005 to advance technology transfer and technology management capabilities in India. As an alliance member of the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), STEM delivers Continuing Education (CE) credit courses that contribute toward Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) accreditation.
About ATTP-RTTP accreditation
The Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) accreditation, offered by the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), is a globally recognized credential that acknowledges the expertise and professional competence of individuals engaged in technology transfer, commercialization, and innovation management.
Courses and CE credits offered by STEM
Participants can earn up to 77 CE credits in total (57 online + 20 in-person) toward RTTP accreditation. In-person participation in the pre-Summit training workshop (10 credits) and the STEM Annual Summit 2027 (10 credits) provide an opportunity to earn the mandatory 20 in-person CE credits required for RTTP accreditation.
