The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with the National Office of Copyrights and Related Rights (ONDA) and under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, has launched the second edition of the IP Management Clinic Program in the Algerian creative industries, Moubadar’art. Building on the success of the first edition, this pioneering initiative continues to support Algeria’s vibrant and innovative creative entrepreneurs in leveraging their intellectual property (IP) assets.
The launch event in Algiers brought together representatives from key institutions, including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Higher Education, the National Chamber of Commerce, WIPO, ONDA, and the Algerian Higher School of Business (ESAA). Speaking on behalf of Minister Zouhir Ballalou, Mr. Mohamed Sidi Moussa, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, underlined the strategic importance of IP in fostering a resilient creative economy.
WIPO’s External Office in Algeria, Mr. Mohamed Saleck Ahmed Ethmane, praised the “great success” of the first edition of the Initiative Art program in Algeria, attributing it to “the special attention given by the country’s highest authorities to culture, national heritage, the arts, and the development of cultural and creative industries.”
He emphasized that Algeria is “the first Arab country to benefit from this program focusing on the creative industries, which aims to identify the challenges faced by start-ups, provide solutions, and engage business and intellectual property experts to design tailored strategies for companies operating in the creative industries sector”.
From over 100 applicants this year, 16 entrepreneurs were selected for a four‑month intensive program combining personalized mentorship, targeted training, and three in‑person bootcamps led by local and international experts in IP, business, and digital innovation. Their projects span diverse creative fields, from music and fashion to design, educational games, and visual arts.
Participants will benefit from tailored support to strategically integrate IP into their creative projects—ranging from music and fashion to design, educational games, and visual arts.
At the event, one of the selected participants, Mr. Karim Aït Benali, who is developing an augmented reality project highlighting Algerian cultural heritage, shared his thoughts:
“I am honored to be part of this new edition. IP is a key lever for showcasing our culture and protecting our ideas.”
Following the official opening ceremony, the 16 entrepreneurs immediately embarked in a 4 days intensive workshop on IP and business strategies. This program marks a significant step forward in strengthening Algeria’s creative economy, empowering entrepreneurs to grow sustainably and position themselves in local and global markets through effective IP management.
