Georgia and WIPO have officially launched a new MBA in Intellectual Property (IP), Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the first of its kind in WIPO’s global education portfolio. Developed jointly by the WIPO Academy, Kutaisi International University (KIU), and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI), the program empowers future leaders to transform ideas into business growth and sustainable impact.

A cooperation built on innovation
The MBA builds on a cooperation agreement signed in February 2025 between WIPO, SAKPATENTI and KIU at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva. It responds to Georgia’s growing demand for expertise in IP and innovation management.
At the launch event, Acting Rector Professor Paata Turava welcomed the initiative, joined by KIU Chancellor Levan Kopaliani and SAKPATENTI Head of Administration Salome Tsimakuridze. Representatives from KIU’s Computer Science and Management Schools also attended.
In parallel, SAKPATENTI is relocating its IP training classes from its office near the capital to Kutaisi, where they will be hosted in a new “Tech Hub” designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
What does the MBA cover?
Hosted by KIU in Kutaisi, the program runs from September 2025 to September 2026. It combines academic theory with practical learning, covering copyright, patents, and trademarks, and exploring how IP supports innovation in business.
The curriculum includes entrepreneurship, technology management, and innovation policy. Through case studies, participants examine how IP contributes to business growth across sectors – from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations.
