New WIPO Joint Master’s Program in IP Management launched in Hungary

A new WIPO Joint Master’s Degree Program in Intellectual Property Management was established under a Memorandum of Understanding between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) and Corvinus University of Budapest. This partnership was formalized in Budapest on November 5, 2025, and strengthens opportunities for professional training and skills-development in intellectual property management supporting Hungary’s role as a regional hub for innovation and knowledge-based growth.

The agreement was signed by Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General, Regional and National Development Sector, WIPO; Bruno van Pottelsberghe, Rector, Corvinus University of Budapest; and Szabolcs Farkas, President, HIPO.

The signing ceremony took place at Corvinus University’s new Gellért Campus. Representatives from the three institutions emphasized the importance of human capacity development in intellectual property management as a foundation for innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable progress.

The launch event featured a roundtable on “Strengthening the innovation ecosystem through intellectual property” which gathered experts from academia, government and industry to share perspectives on how intellectual property management supports national and regional innovation.

The Joint Master’s Program in Intellectual Property Management will commence in September 2026. The one-year fully residential program will be taught in English-and integrates law, economics and management. Students will:

  • Apply intellectual property and innovation management principles in business and policy settings;
  • Develop expertise in intellectual property valuation, licensing and commercialization;
  • Gain practical insights through case studies and collaboration with experts from WIPO and the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office.

Graduates will be prepared for leadership roles in innovation management, entrepreneurship and policy development, contributing to Hungary’s position as a regional center for innovation and technology transfer.
