Alemán stated that China is performing very well on innovation. China has risen from the 43rd place in 2010 to the global top tier in the GII, entering the top 10 by 2025 through long-term sustained effort and innovation promotion. China hosts the largest number of top100 Innovation Clusters worldwide with Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou ranking the first. China is a global IP powerhouse leading in patent filing and ranking very high in utility models, trademarks and industrial designs.

Alemán said that Huawei’s strength in R&D is a strong driver of innovation and a global leader user of WIPO Global IP Services. Huawei had 6,600 published PCT applications in 2024. This is a phenomenal growth compared to the 249 PCT applications in 2005.
