Save the date: February 17, 2026 – Release of the World Intellectual Property Report 2026

On February 17, 2026, the World Intellectual Property Report (WIPR) 2026 on Diffusion of Innovation will be released. The report examines how innovation spreads across economies and focuses on the factors enabling technology adoption by drawing on original analysis and case studies.

Diffusion of Innovation

Innovation-led growth is an important force for improving the general standard of living. But to benefit from it, countries have to adopt the technologies. This year’s WIPR explores how new technologies diffuse to the world and spread within countries. It focuses on how policymakers can support technological diffusion, by identifying factors that enable the diffusion, enabling the countries’ broader participation in innovation-driven growth. Drawing on original analysis and three case studies, the report provides insights into how innovation capabilities shape technology diffusion.

Launch event

The hybrid event will be held in the WIPO Conference Hall at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and streamed online on February 17, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (CET).

The event will include a presentation of key findings of the report, followed by a panel discussion with high-level speakers on what makes for successful technology diffusion. WIPO Assistant Director-General of the Intellectual Property (IP) and Innovation Ecosystem Sector, Mr. Marco M. Alemán, will open the event.

The event will be in English, with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.
