New Executive Master’s Program in IP and Innovation Launched in Morocco

On October 24, 2025, the World Intellutual Property Organisation (WIPO) Academy, in cooperation with the Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P), the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC), and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, launched the first edition of the Executive Master in Intellectual Property(IP) and Innovation (MIPI) at the UM6P campus in Ben Guerir, Morocco. 

This Joint Master’s Program marks a new stage in advancing IP education and professional training in the region. Designed for working professionals, the program strengthens Morocco’s position as a regional hub for knowledge and innovation-driven growth.

The program builds on the Letter of Intent signed on October 5, 2024 during the WIPO Director General’s visit to Morocco. The Letter of Intent formalized cooperation between WIPO, OMPIC, and UM6P to establish a joint executive master’s in IP and innovation. The initiative builds on Morocco’s innovation ecosystem and its performance in the Global Innovation Index. The initiative enhanced national and regional capacities in IP, innovation management, and technology transfer.

The launch ceremony brought together senior representatives of the partner institutions, including Abdelaziz Babqiqi, Director General of OMPIC; Hicham El Habti, President of UM6P  ; and Hani Aji, Associate Training Officer at the WIPO Academy In their remarks, they described the role of IP in supporting innovation, competitiveness, and collaboration between academia and industry. They reported on Morocco’s developing position in IP education and innovation across Africa.

Hosted by UM6P in Ben Guerir, the 12-month Executive MIPI adopts a hybrid format combining in-person and online sessions tailored for working professionals. Bringing together participants from Morocco and other African countries, the program reflects a shared commitment to strengthening regional capacity in innovation and technology transfer.

Through a flexible weekend schedule and a curriculum integrating IP management, innovation strategy, and entrepreneurship, the program equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to drive sustainable growth. Developed collaboratively under WIPO’s academic guidance, it blends global expertise with local insight to address emerging challenges in IP and innovation policy.

The MIPI program stands as a testament to Morocco’s growing role as a regional  hub for intellectual property education and innovation-led development and highlights WIPO’s continued commitment to building human capital and fostering collaboration through higher education.
