International Women's Day 2025

This year on International Women's Day, we're coming together under the theme for all women and girls Rights, equality, empowerment. Women have made incredible strides shaping the world with our ideas and innovations. But when it comes to the intellectual property system, women are still underrepresented in patent filings, design applications, and copyright registrations.

This is clearly a missed opportunity for all. Imagine a world where innovation and creativity by women anywhere is supported by IP for the good of everyone. This is the world we are working to build. Knowledge is power. In 2024, we worked with over 4400 women entrepreneurs globally, providing IP and commercialization training, mentoring and matchmaking to foster success. And we launched the IP and Gender Action Plan database, which features over 200 global policies and initiatives designed to bridge the gender gap in innovation, IP and entrepreneurship.

We're also driving research on women's representation in innovation and IP. Our first Global Research Experts meeting gathered researchers from 41 countries to explore data, methodologies and findings on women's engagement in science, innovation, the creative industries and IP systems. These insights will inform future policies for a more inclusive system because when women thrive, the world thrives. Let's keep working toward a future where every woman and girl can lead, innovate, and help shape our world.
