First WIPO Summer School on Green Technology and IP in India

Eighty students and young professionals from India and abroad took part in WIPO’s first summer school on green technology and intellectual property (IP), which was held from March 17 to 28, 2025 in hybrid format. The summer school was jointly organized with the School of Law of Christ (Deemed to be University) Delhi NCR, India to provide national participants with the opportunity to explore the role of IP in driving sustainable innovation.

The summer school program which was dedicated to green technology and IP equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed to engage with real-world applications of IP in climate change solutions, and deepened their understanding of how IP frameworks support the commercialization and dissemination of sustainable technologies. The program also enabled collaboration among participants and the experts engaged, in addition to shaping some of the participants’ future career trajectories.

What did the program cover?

The summer school covered a range of topics taught by leading experts from India and WIPO officials, such as:

  • The Role of Green Tech in Climate Mitigation Strategies;
  • Patenting Green Technologies;
  • The Technology Transfer Process;
  • Analyzing Green Tech IP Strategies;
  • Emerging Green Technologies; 
  • Ethical Considerations for Green Tech;
  • Building Sustainable Green Tech Business; and
  • Green Marketing and Responsible Branding.

What is the WIPO Summer Schools Program?

The WIPO Academy teams up with universities and IP offices across the world to offer two-week long summer schools for young professionals and senior students to explore the role of IP as a tool for economic empowerment, as well as the role of WIPO in the administration and provision of global IP services.
