About the Guests:
Justin Koo Koo is a Tenured Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies, St Augustine. Prior to joining UWI, Justin was a Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London and a Teaching Fellow at University College London (UCL). Justin is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the UK, a member of Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI), and a member of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP). Justin’s primary research interest is focused on copyright law and he has published books and articles in the area, as well as drafted copyright laws for the Caribbean region. Justin also has interests in trademark law, sports law and entertainment law.

Jason Haynes is Associate Professor of Law at the University of Birmingham, where he also serves as Deputy Head of Postgraduate Research. An internationally recognized scholar, barrister, arbitrator, and mediator, his research spans international economic law, sports law and IP law, and human rights, with a particular focus on the intersection of law, innovation, and global development. Before joining the University of Birmingham, Dr Haynes held academic appointments at the University of the West Indies and Durham University. He has also served in senior legal and advisory roles with governments and international organizations, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the World Bank, CARICOM, and the American Bar Association.

About the Guest:
Natalie Corthésy is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Law Cave Hill. She obtained an LLM from University College London, a PhD from CCLS Queen Mary University of London, and is qualified as an attorney-at-law in Jamaica. She is Senior Lecturer at UWI Faculty of Law Mona. In 2019 and 2022, she received the UWI Mona Principal's Award for the research project with the Greatest Business/Economic Development Impact for her scholarship on International Intellectual Property Protection of Country Names. Natalie is the recipient of the 2017 International Trademark Association's Ladas Memorial Award for her paper Trademarks, Country Names and Misappropriation of National Identity. She has served as a member of the advisory board of the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, and is a member of the National Technical Working Group on Brand Jamaica.

Olivia Dhordain is an Intellectual Property Expert with an extensive knowledge of the luxury industry.
She began her career as an IP lawyer of the Paris Bar. Working in private practice for 8 years, notably at Clifford Chance, Olivia represented a wide array of international companies across many industries. Olivia then integrated Richemont’s inhouse IP department in 2007, taking on the role of Deputy Chief IP Counsel in 2011 co-imagining and leading a deep transformation of the IP practice to adapt the service to a fast-growing Luxury Group. After 17 years of tenure at Richemont, managing a team of over 20 lawyers and paralegals and providing full and tailored IP services to 26 of the most aspirational luxury brands in the world.
Today, Olivia advises her own clients on IP and brand strategy under the chosen name of OUTBOXING IP. Oliva teaches IP and history of art to students of the University of Geneva and the ISG Luxury school of management. She regularly collaborates with the World Intellectual Property Counsel as speaker and panellist in events organised by WIPO. She is founding board member of the Dominique Renaud Foundation.

Anca Ciurel is a Canadian attorney member of the Québec Bar specialized in intellectual property (IP) with a strong focus on the fashion and creative industries. Early in her career, she worked with fashion clients at a boutique IP law firm in Montréal, advising on legal matters related to brand protection. She then joined the IP department of Louis Vuitton in Paris, where she worked on civil enforcement and the management of IP portfolios, helping protect trademarks and designs of luxury fashion brands. Today, Anca focuses on the role of intellectual property in creative industries such as fashion, film, and music, particularly in the digital era. At WIPO, she serves as the focal point for fashion-related initiatives, contributing to discussions on how IP law shapes and protects the fashion industry globally.
