The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has launched SPARK, a new series of short reports looking into technological trends across different industries.

Based on data from patents, Technology SPARK (Short Pieces of Analysis, Research and Knowledge) reports offer clear, data-based insights showing how innovation is evolving around the world and how intellectual property (IP) information can guide the development of new technologies.
Developed by WIPO’s team of IP analysts and experts, each SPARK edition draws on patent data from countries worldwide and focuses on niche technological topics. The findings are carefully analyzed and presented in a concise, targeted format, allowing readers to quickly grasp emerging trends and opportunities for collaboration.
SPARK: Technologies for Mine Action
The first report in the series analyzes global patenting trends in mine action technologies in collaboration with the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). It focuses on developments in detection tools, clearance systems, sensing technologies and personal protective equipment.
WIPO IP analytics reports
The Technology SPARK series complements WIPO’s existing suite of IP analytics publications, which help business leaders, policymakers and researchers better understand global innovation dynamics and their wider impact.
- The biennial WIPO Technology Trends report comprehensively explores developments in key technological areas such as transport or artificial intelligence.
- Patent Landscape Reports, produced in collaboration with WIPO’s partners and Member States, offer a comprehensive deep dive into patenting activity across broad technical areas of national or global importance.
