The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia organized the 8th ASEAN IP Register Regional Coordinators Meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from May 5 to 9, 2025, with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global).

The 8th ASEAN IP Register Regional Coordinators Meeting was held in person, bringing together 33 officials from ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat, along with seven representatives from commercial IP information.
The meeting focused on the development and enhancement of the ASEAN IP Register Data Services, with discussions covering digitization efforts, progress achieved, and the challenges faced in improving data quality and publishing full-text patent data.
In addition, participants shared experiences and challenges related to data quality and explored the potential of emerging technologies, including AI and open-source tools and services, to enhance, optimize, and automate data validation and verification initiatives for higher productivity and higher-quality data.

A major highlight of the meeting was the ASEAN IP Register’s advancement toward establishing a data exchange platform that facilitates IP data commercialization. With approximately 8 million IP records now accessible, ASEAN is well-positioned to pursue strategic partnerships with global IP information service providers. These collaborations are expected to result in significant cost savings while improving both the productivity and quality of IP examination. The proposed model presents a compelling business case for ASEAN Member States.
