PATENTSCOPE users can now identify not only patents explicitly declared to ETSI as standard essential, but also related patent family members added by ETSI through its Family Extension.
A new “ETSI Family Extension” column in the SEP Info tab displays three categories of ETSI-related records:
- Basis Patent
- Explicitly Disclosed
- Extended records (patents that were not originally declared to ETSI but were subsequently linked by ETSI to a declared patent through patent family relationships).
For SEP records from ITU and IEEE, N/A is displayed in this column.
This enhancement increases the number of distinct patent records available through the PATENTSCOPE SEP collection, covering ETSI, IEEE, and ITU, from over 206,000 to more than 450,000. By including related patent family members, PATENTSCOPE provides a more comprehensive view of ETSI declarations and helps users view potentially relevant patents that might otherwise have been overlooked.
