WIPO and Algeria Venture Join Forces to Launch a Joint IP for Business Center for Algerian Startups and SMEs

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Algeria Venture, the agency for the promotion and management of startup support institutions designated by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Microenterprises, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a Joint Intellectual Property (IP) for Business Center in Algeria. The new Center is set to become the national entry point for supporting Algerian startups and SMEs in managing, protecting and leveraging their intellectual property assets.

A long-standing cooperation

This initiative builds on an already strong collaboration between WIPO and Algeria's innovation stakeholders, notably the successful delivery of three IP Management Clinics, organized with Moubadar'art (two editions) and Nadjahi (one edition). Following discussions with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Microenterprises, in particular during the WIPO Director General's visit to Algeria in 2025, both parties expressed their commitment to institutionalizing this cooperation through the creation of a Joint IP for Business Center.

An online awareness-raising workshop, jointly organized by WIPO and the Ministry to present the initiative, was very well received. It drew more than 100 participants, confirming the strong interest of Algeria's startup and SME ecosystem in structured IP support.

What the Center offers

The Joint IP for Business Center will operate as an implementing partner, drawing on WIPO's programs, tools and methodologies while benefiting from Algeria Venture's local network, contextual knowledge and outreach. Its offering will include:

  • Access to the WIPO IP Diagnostic Tool;
  • Access to WIPO's Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) assistance services;
  • Capacity-building activities, including One-Day IP Workshops, one-on-one advisory sessions, and IP Management Clinics (IPMC);
  • A dedicated landing page on the Algeria Venture website, serving as the national entry point to these tools and services.

First activities: launch in November 2026

The Center's first activity will be a One-Day IP Workshop, held in November 2026. It will combine a group awareness session with one-on-one advisory sessions with IP and business development experts. Interested Algerian startups and SMEs will be able to register to take part. Following this first stage, the most advanced companies will be selected to receive in-depth support in 2027 through an IP Management Clinic (IPMC).

A call for applications is open from today until November 5 to Algerian startups and SMEs wishing to take part in the workshop and the one-on-one advisory sessions.
