The WIPO Global Awards program has introduced a new function within its acceleration framework: Investment Readiness Advisor.
The role strengthens the credibility and market alignment of the Awards’ acceleration program by helping identify companies that are well positioned to engage with external investors and international markets. It complements the work of the International Jury, which evaluates how companies leverage intellectual property within their business strategy.
Mr. Bülent Ilgün has been appointed to this role.
Mr. Ilgün brings experience from senior leadership roles in banking and financial markets, where he has overseen trading, investment, and institutional client activities across multiple geographies. His career has included senior positions at Credit Europe Bank and Deutsche Bank, and he is currently based in Geneva as Deputy CEO of Nexent Bank (Suisse) SA.
Evaluating business cases has been a consistent part of his executive responsibilities, requiring decisions in real market environments under capital allocation constraints.
During discussions with the WIPO Global Awards team, Mr. Ilgün described his perspective succinctly:
“I’m on the other side of the table, the person innovators need to pitch to, and I decide whether I’m going to put my money where my mouth is. Innovation needs to make money.”
The creation of the Investment Readiness Advisor role reflects a practical evolution of the program. While the Awards recognize the strategic use of intellectual property, the acceleration component also requires an assessment of commercial resilience and investment credibility.
In this capacity, Mr. Ilgün will provide an independent review of shortlisted finalists from an investor standpoint, identifying strengths and material concerns in relation to scalability, financial discipline, and market positioning. His input will inform internal reflections and contribute to shaping post-award support.
The role does not involve investment activity by WIPO.
By introducing a structured investor-side perspective, the WIPO Global Awards reinforce the link between intellectual property, innovation, and commercial performance in international markets.
