The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Courts Administration Service of Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance collaboration on WIPO Lex-Judgments, WIPO’s global database providing free public access to leading intellectual property (IP) judgments.
Through this collaboration, Canada becomes the 52nd jurisdiction participating in WIPO Lex-Judgments, further expanding the geographical reach and diversity of the judicial knowledge available. The initiative will support the systematic sharing of leading Canadian IP judgments in both English and French, enhancing access to authoritative jurisprudence and promoting greater transparency and consistency in the interpretation and application of IP law across jurisdictions.
Canada’s contribution to WIPO Lex-Judgments comprises a collection of leading Canadian IP judgments made available with the support of the Federal Court, including Justice Michael D. Manson, who also serves as a member of the WIPO Judicial Institute Advisory Board of Judges. The Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as the Courts Administration Service of Canada also supported this initiative.
WIPO Lex-Judgments forms part of WIPO’s broader efforts to strengthen the exchange of judicial knowledge and expand access to IP jurisprudence worldwide. By facilitating access to decisions from diverse legal systems, the database supports comparative legal research and informed judicial decision-making.
