The current Constitution of Suriname (in Dutch: Grondwet van Suriname), was adopted on 30 September 1987 and came into force on the same day.
This Constitution does not contain provisions concerning the protection of intellectual property rights. However, article 8.1. of the Constitution guarantees the protection of person and property as one of the basic rights, individual rights and freedoms under the Constitution. Moreover, article 39. c. guarantees that, 'in the execution of its education policy, the State shall be under the obligation to enable all citizens to attain the highest levels of education, scientific research and artistic creation (...)'.
