Year of Version 1997 Dates Entry into force: January 31, 1997 Enacted: June 17, 1996 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Patents (Inventions), Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Other Notes The Arbitration Act 1996 repeals the Arbitration Act 1950, 1975 and 1979. The Act regulates arbitrations, the legal 'seat' or 'place' of which is in England and Wales or Norther Ireland. Scotland has its own Arbitration Act passed in 2010, the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010. The Act also applies to institutional and to ad hoc arbitrations. Part I of this Act apply to all arbitrations conducted pursuant to an arbitration agreement. Part II deals with consumer arbitrations and arbitrations conducted on a statutory basis to which Part I of the Act does not apply. Part III deals with the recognition and enforcement of foreign awards and Part IV contains general provisions, based on the provisions of Part I and II of the Act. This Act is divided in IV parts and 4 schedules. Schedule 3 of the Act amends certain provisions of several laws, inter alia, the following: - section 67 of the Patents Act 1949 (c.87) (see paragraph 8 of the Schedule) - section 130 of the Patents Act 1977 (c.37) (see paragraph 33 of the Schedule ) -section 150 of the of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (c.48) (see paragraph 50 of the Schedule). Schedule 4 of this Act provides, inter alia, for the repeals of the following laws: - section 131(e) and section 52(4) of the Patents Act 1977 (c. 37) - section 39(3)(b)(i) and section 10(4) of the Plant Varieties and Seeds Act 1964.
