The notification by Canada to the WTO under Article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'[The Economic Action Plan, No 1, also known as 'Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 21, 2015 and other measures' (formerly Bill C-59)] amends, inter alia, the Copyright Act to provide sound recordings and performances fixed in sound recordings an additional 20 years of copyright protection, by extending the term of protection from 50 to 70 years after their publication.
The Act received Royal Assent on June 23, 2015; and the amendments to the Copyright Act have entered into force [see Part 3, Division 5 of the Act for detailed amendments].'
Part 3, Division 3 entitled 'Intellectual Property' of this Act also introduces the amendments to various provisions of the Industrial Design Act, Patent Act, and Trademarks Act.
