Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks

Notifications deposited by the Kingdom of Belgium, the French Republic and the Italian Republic concerning the application of the transitional provisions

The Director of the United International Bureaux for the Protection of Intellectual Property (BIRPI) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and, in accordance with the provisions of the above international instrument, adopted at Stockholm, has the honor to notify him of the notifications deposited by the Governments of the Kingdom of Belgium, the French Republic and the Italian Republic in which these Governments indicate their desire to avail themselves of the provisions of Article 16(2) of the said Agreement.

These notifications entered into force on the date of their receipt, that is, on May 20, 1970, for the Kingdom of Belgium, on May 20, 1970, for the French Republic, and on April 29, 1970, for the Italian Republic.

In pursuance of the said Article, the Kingdom of Belgium, the French Republic and the Italian Republic, which are members of the Nice Special Union, may, for five years from April 26, 1970, the date of entry into force of the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), exercise the rights provided under Articles 5 to 8 of the Stockholm Act of the said Agreement, as if they were bound by those Articles.
