According to the internal memorandum of July 4, 2012, WIPO agreed to organize a Regional Symposium on Traditional Knowledge and Digitalization of Intangible Cultural Heritage, in Yalta, Ukraine, on September 4 and 5, 2012. Nevertheless, in his letter of July 20, 2012 (copy attached), Mr. Volodymyr Dmytryshyn, Deputy Chairman, State Service for Intellectual Property of Ukraine (SIPS), informed WIPO that, considering the importance of copyright issues, Ukraine would like to arrange for the discussion on legislation and enforcement practice in respect of Internet piracy, and to cancel the Symposium on Traditional knowledge.
The objective of the Symposium would be to discuss and approve the newly developed draft Tool on traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions for countries in transition and Tool on Digitalization of intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as the issues of promotion and follow-up activities. |
