Titre : Development of a National IP Strategy (NIPS) for Brunei Darussalam
Description : Since the beginning of 2012, close to 80 patents were filed by local research institutions and inventors (residents) in Brunei Darussalam. With increasing patent filings in such a short span of time (considering the size or the country and a population of 400,000), the Government has felt the need to build capacity of universities and research institutions in Brunei Darussalam on technology management (i.e. IP commercialization, licensing, etc.) in order for them to better exploit IP that they produce. Moreover, with the number of trademark filings increasing year after year, Brunei Darussalam is also aiming to join the Madrid System by 2015. All these developments have prompted the Government of Brunei Darussalam to formulate a national IP strategy with a view to better align its IP system with the existing national development objectives and policies.
