WCO Meeting re. Global Congress Partnership |

Meeting has been scheduled with WCO to elaborate on the reasons behind WIPO’s current position advocating the Steering Group to be re-established with the three IGOs in the lead for the organization of the Congress, with private sector involvement to be determined by the IGOs.
While concerns have been transmitted to Ms. Yamamoto during the past two weeks, a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Winchell would be crucial because the current WCO Global Congress team is new and therefore not fully informed of the past difficulties presented by the private sector partners in the Congress. Furthermore, WCO and BASCAP have a memorandum of understanding in place and BASCAP will be visiting WCO on April 9.
It is in WIPO's interest to maintain its close working relationship with WCO and to endeavor that both WCO and INTERPOL align their positions with that of WIPO in relation to the Global Congress. |
