Advisory Mission on Establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) |

During the official visit of the Director General to Myanmar in November 2012, the national authorities concerned had expressed its interest in setting up TISCs to cater the needs of universities and research institutions in the country. This expression of interest has been confirmed by the above request. Moreover, there is an on-going initiative to set up an IP information center under the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), based on the recommendations made by a WIPO advisory mission in May 2013. Though the said center is supposed to focus initially on providing IP advisory and information services to the business community in Myanmar, it is envisaged that it will subsume the functions of a TISC eventually. Hence, if the above advisory mission is approved, it is also proposed to hold a consultation meeting with the senior management and officials from UMFCCI with a view to incorporate the functions of a TISC in its IP information center. |
