In a letter of April 22, 2011, the Director General of the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of Thailand, Mrs. Pajchima Tanasanti, expressed the interest of Thailand in hosting the next World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) International Symposium on Geographical Indications. In a letter of December 20, 2011, WIPO confirmed its readiness to jointly organize this activity with DIP (see attached letters). Since January, 2012, informal exchanges for the organization of that project have taken place between DIP and the Trademarks and Design Law Division. The dates of March 20 to 22, 2013, have been retained for the Symposium, and Bangkok has been chosen as the city where the Symposium will be held. In addition, a distribution of tasks and costs has been proposed to, and informally agreed on, by DIP.
