Under the framework of the implementation of the above refereed project in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has received a request from the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia during your official visit to the Country, from February 5 to 7, 2014. Accordingly, preliminary consultations took place between WIPO and the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) to discuss necessary modalities for the launching of the project.
As recommended by the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP), as the first step, it was proposed to organize with the support of WIPO a National Meeting in Addis Ababa to discuss and recommend roadmap for the launch and implementation of the project.
The Meeting is expected to discuss and finalize identification of national experts for the establishment of the expert group on appropriate technology, the establishment of a multi stakeholders group, the nomination of national and international project consultants, and establishing the necessary terms of reference and timetable.
In view of the above, it is proposed for your consideration to organize a National Meeting in Addis Abba, Ethiopia, on January 29 and 30, 2015.
This meeting will be organized back-to-back with the National Meeting on the Finalization of National Innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) Policy and Strategy for Ethiopia, which will take place in Addis Ababa, on January 26 and 27, 2015, in order to save the resources of the Organization in terms of time and finance.
The cost of the activity will be borne from the budget of the Division for Least Developed Countries (0035-P1248). A detailed cost estimate is attached. |
