It is proposed that WIPO organize an official side event at the UN Headquarters in New York to take place during the annual Africa Week (October 16-20, 2017), with the theme "The Informal Economy in Developing Nations: Hidden Engine of Innovation for Africa".
The lunchtime event would take place on October 17, 2017, (Conference Room 11, 13-15-14:30) and involve a moderated panel of expert speakers, including the South African-based co-editor of the book, Dr. Erika Kraemer-Mbula, to discuss the role of the informal sector's innovation in the economic development of Africa. The event would serve to raise awareness of the WIPO's recent publication "The Informal Economy in Developing Nations: Hidden Engine of Innovation?" co-edited by Sacha Wunsch-Vincent. |
